Do you want to strengthen, and learn more about your Christian faith? Do you want to learn
how to articulate that faith and perhaps let that faith inspire you in your everyday life?
Operating under the auspices of The University of the South (Sewanee) Education for Ministry
enables each of us to discover and exercise our own God-given gifts for ministry in our everyday
lives. Through study, prayer and theological reflection, EfM provides a framework for us to
examine and deepen our Christian faith. EfM is not preparation for the priesthood and there are
no exams.
EfM can be a guide for those who are troubled by some of what they may have been taught about
God and religion. Being able to question certain aspects of our faith in a non-judgmental and
supportive environment is often very rewarding. EfM employs a systematic way of discussing
and exploring how God is present in all aspects of life. This process helps us develop a stronger
faith to better understand our relationship with God and shows us how conditions in the world
intersect with our human and spiritual natures. As an added bonus, many friendships made in an
EfM seminar remain in place long afterward.
An EfM seminar with six to twelve members and a trained mentor meets weekly for three hours
January through May, breaks for the Summer then reconvenes September through mid-
December. The All Saints group meets on Monday evenings from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
A new class will begin on January 8th 2024. The seminar meets at the Parish House on the All
Saints campus.
While the full curriculum takes four years to complete, participants are asked to commit to only
one year at a time. Year One focuses on the Old Testament, Year Two on the New Testament,
Year Three on the history of Christianity and Year Four on theology. All four years include
participation in Theological Reflection. Upon completion participants will receive a diploma
from The University of the South. There is a tuition fee and some financial aid may be
available.
