OUR TIME OF TRANSITION

This time of transition that we have shared is almost done. Next month we will learn who has been called by God and our Vestry, with the recommendation of our Search Committee to be the new Rector.

As Chuck Dinsmore said last Sunday, the committee has given many hours of discernment – many hours of prayer and thoughtful conversation to find a priest “who will join us in ministry in our parish, town and diocese.”  We as a congregation have also offered this prayer on many Sundays asking for God’s help.

Transition time can be full of uncertainty.  I expect in every generation since the beginning of time, someone said, “Things used to be better. Don’t you remember the good old days?”

For me, right here at All Saints, these are the good old days. They are days filled with opportunities, blessings and joy. In a conversation about transition – this part now almost done – at least with the call of a new Rector –transition will continue. And if it seems like an uncertain time, we know that God has blessed us with our time and an understanding of how much we are in God’s hands. We can do as the Search Committee has done and ask the Holy Spirit to be among us for guidance, encouragement and love.

Surely God has been with us not only in our shared ministry here, but in all the transitions of our lives.

It is my hope and prayer that we will take the time to be flexible enough to engage each other and our neighbors in seeking out what God calls us to now, in 2017 and in the years that follow.

We essentially are a place of hope and celebration. And that is one of the keys to our future.

Faithfully,

Hugh+
