ABUNDANCE

I am continually amazed when things come together. It is not only on a Bishop’s visit, or Easter or other Sundays when things are noisy, joyful, and certainly blessed.

We worship together, share the peace with each other, we sing together, and share the bounty that certainly applies to the bread and wine of the Eucharist. And then we share at the "groaning table" as we gather after church and eat "abundantly!" We are truly blessed here at All Saints.  My amazement at least in part is a book I have been reading, Parker J. Palmer’s Let Your Life Speak. He writes first about how we human beings seem to "regard perpetual scarcity as the law of life." He goes on to say that, "The irony, often tragic, is that we create the very scarcities we fear."

On the other hand, as I reflected on the abundance of life and worship here at All Saints, I read, "Abundance is created when we have the sense to choose community, to come together to share our common store." Coffee Hour on Sundays reminds me of this, as it always does with the bags of food that come to the altar each Sunday as part of our offering.

Palmer writes, "Authentic abundance does not lie in secured stockpiles of food. They cannot influence affection but they do as you and I belong to a community where we can give those goods to others who need them –and receive them from others when we are in need."

And finally, "Community doesn’t just create abundance, community (like ours) is abundance."

In every season of the year I know that we will continue to celebrate all that is right here at All Saints.

Thanks to all who are supporting the ministry here through our Stewardship Campaign.
