Evening Prayer at All Saints ~ Thursdays at 6:30 pm
St. Luke’s Chapel
“Be still, then, and know that I am God.”
As the body of Christ, we are asked in our Baptismal Covenant “Will you continue in the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of the bread, and in the prayers?” We as a community of faith re-affirm this solemn vow when we attend any service which includes Holy Baptism.
Vespers is a wonderful and deeply spiritual liturgy of prayer which is the penultimate of the ancient daily Christian “Prayer Hours.” Vespers offers us an opportunity for thanksgiving for the good in the day, to let go of the stresses of work and life; and to turn all things earthy, over to God near the end of the day.
This liturgy of prayer is offered on THURSDAY EVENINGS AT 6:30 in ST. LUKE’S CHAPEL and will include readings from Holy Women, Holy Men, in commemoration of those women and men of faith who have gone before us in a life of prayer. Vespers generally takes about 15 minutes to complete.
Vespers can be led either by laity or clergy; here at All Saints, this “hour” will be led by laity.
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
