All Saints Episcopal Church welcomes everyone to join them for the 2019-2020 Concert Series, featuring eight inspiring performances starting on Saturday, November 9, 2019. All concerts will be held in the church’s sanctuary (333 Tarpon Drive, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301).

The 2019-2020 Concert Series will include the following programs:

 

 

An Afternoon of Chamber Music Quintets for Piano and Winds 

Sunday, December 1, 2019 at 4 p.m. – All Saints Episcopal Church (333 Tarpon Drive, Fort Lauderdale, FL) – Admission is free – Free Will Offering.

Members of New Directions Chamber Winds are collaborating with Elisabeth Thomashoff, a promising young artist from Austria currently living in Palm Beach County. The program will include two landmark Classical- era pieces written for wind quartet and piano: Mozart’s Quintet in E-flat major, K. 452, and Beethoven’s Quintet in E-flat major, op. 16. Performers from the New Directions Chamber Winds are Frank Molano, Oboe; David Sucik, clarinet; Alan Parshley, Horn; and James Barber, bassoon.

JAMES K. BASS, GUEST CONDUCTOR: The incomparable voices of Seraphic Fire resound in carols, ancient and modern, in this new Christmas program. Seraphic Fire explores the songs of the angels, including Gregorian chant, Renaissance motets, English carols and the traditional singing of Silent NightO Come All Ye Faithful, and Jesus Christ, the Apple Tree. For over a decade, Seraphic Fire’s Christmas concerts have been a South Florida tradition.

ELENA SHARKOVA, GUEST CONDUCTOR: The billowing sounds of the Russian choral tradition come to life under the baton of acclaimed Russian conductor Elena Sharkova. In her return to Seraphic Fire, Sharkova conducts a program of exceeding beauty, anchored by basso profundo (deep bass) lines that are so characteristic of Russian choral music.

RAGNAR BOHLIN, GUEST CONDUCTOR: The Chill of Ice and radiance of the northern lights are palpable in this concert of choral music from Scandinavia conducted by Ragnar Bohlin, director of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, founder of the professional choir Cappella SF and guest conductor of the Swedish Radio Choir. With fresh harmonies, pulsing rhythm, and fantastical choral effects, the Scandinavian choral tradition is an exciting discovery.

JAMES K. BASS, GUEST CONDUCTOR: Franz Biebl wrote his iconic “Ave Maria” for an all-male Bavarian Firemen’s Chorus in the summer of 1959. From those humble beginnings, the piece made its way through the glee clubs of U.S. universities before being performed and recorded by the pre-eminent all-male vocal ensemble, Chanticleer. Seraphic Fire now performs the Biebl and explores the tradition of music for men’s choirs that inspired this singular work.
