Juneteenth (June 19) is a day of celebration as we rejoice in the liberation of those who had been forced into slavery in the United States. Juneteenth is a reminder of how far we have come. It also represents a challenge to us as brothers and sisters in Christ to continue working toward a world where all of God’s children may live free in the beauty of His creation.

This year, many members of the churches of the Broward Deanery of the Diocese of Southeast Florida participated in our unique Juneteenth Evening Prayer service. It was very moving to have so many faces and voices record the service!

A Collect for Courage and Hope

O God, where hearts are fearful and constricted, grant courage and hope. Where anxiety is infectious and widening, grant peace and reassurance. Where impossibilities close every door and window, grant imagination and resistance. Where distrust twists our thinking, grant healing and illumination. Where spirits are daunted and weakened, grant soaring wings and strengthened dreams. Amen.
