Yes, that is who we are, who we tell others we are, and what we believe us to be. Our response to the Baptismal Covenant (which we will all promise during our new Bishop’s visit in June ) “Will you seek and serve Christ is all persons, loving your neighbor as your self?,” and “Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being?” We vow, “I will, with God’s help.”

Knowing that we are seen as followers of Christ , what came to me this past week was this:

On Sunday mornings I have heard some say, “What are we going to do about these homeless people who show up?” “They mumble. They create a disturbance when we are trying to worship.”

THEY? WE?  In Christ there is no we or they.

I know we have worked hard at our ministry of inclusion. However, it is important to keep the other, so called, in mind.

If we are to be what Christ has called us to be, our ministry to our guests needs to go beyond our critical Beds Around the Altar – not only is that ministry a key to who we are but a symbol of welcoming that should remind us that there is always more to be done in Jesus’ name.
