SUMMARY:Seraphic Fire Concert
DESCRIPTION:“Renaissance: The Capilla Flamenca” \nThe Capilla Flamenca: Seraphic Fire unleashes the splendor of choral music’s golden era \n [DECEMBER 2024-MIAMI] – On January 16-19\, 2025\, Seraphic Fire\, South Florida’s GRAMMY®-nominated\, professional vocal ensemble\, will bring the musical legacy of the historic Capilla Flamenca to life in a stunning tribute to the most glorious choir ever assembled. Led by guest conductor Amanda Quist\, 13 unaccompanied singers will perform works of great Renaissance composers at concerts in Coral Gables\, Ft. Lauderdale\, Naples\, and Boca Raton. \nThe private chapel choir of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V\, the Capilla Flamenca was an elite group of singers and composers who dazzled the courts and cathedrals of the Holy Roman Empire with their sublime voices\, singing both secular and sacred music. Charles V came from a long line of passionate music lovers\, and the chapel accompanied him as he traveled his realm extensively to display his power through music. “No other institution had a repertory as rich as that of the Capilla Flamenca\, and the music they performed represents the great riches of the sixteenth century\, the ‘Golden Age of Polyphony\,’” writes the program’s consulting scholar\, Honey Meconi of Rochester University. \n“Seraphic Fire is one of the only groups that I know who could really perform this\,” said Quist. “This is not music for any old group. This really requires a very specific skill set. For me\, it’s like having the most glorious car to drive and with the most glorious music. The audience is going to walk away and say\, ‘I am now a fan of all of this incredible Renaissance polyphony and just didn’t know about it.’” \nProgram Includes:\nRegina caeli laetare — Heinrich Isaac\nEgo flos campi — Jacobus Clemens Non Papa\nFresco y claro arroyuelo — Francisco Guerrero \nPerformances:\nThu\, Jan 16 at 7:30 pm | St. Gregory’s Episcopal\, 100 NE Mizner Blvd.\, Boca Raton 33432\nFri\, Jan 17 at 8:00 pm | Church of the Little Flower\, 2711 Indian Mound Rd.\, Coral Gables 33134\nSat\, Jan 18 at 7:30 pm | All Saints Episcopal\, 333 Tarpon Dr.\, Ft. Gilmore School of Music. A WMU alum and Michigan native\, Dr. Quist served as Director of Choral Studies for the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. Prior to that\, Quist was at Westminster Choir College\, where she served as Chair of the Conducting\, Organ\, and Sacred Music Department. She is the recipient of Westminster Choir College’s Distinguished Teaching Award\, the Mazzotti Award for Women’s Leadership\, and she was named the Carol F. Spinelli Conducting Fellow. \nThe New York Times\, Philadelphia Inquirer\, and New York Classical Review have described Amanda Quist’s work as “transformative\,” “beautifully prepared\, gripping\,” “bridging the vocal and instrumental textures with perfect intonation\,” and “leaving the audience breathless.” Dr. Quist has collaborated in choral preparations with the Philadelphia Orchestra\, New York Philharmonic\, New World Symphony\, Palm Beach Symphony\, Dresden Staatskapelle\, and the Spoleto Festival. Her early music ensemble\, Westminster Kantorei\, won first place in the 2018 American Prize for Choral Performance. Under Quist’s direction\, Kantorei was invited to perform at the American Choral Directors Association’s (ACDA) Eastern Division Conference\, Boston Early Music Festival\, American Handel Festival\, and Interkultur\, and released its first commercial recording in 2017\, Lumina\, distributed by Naxos. \nAbout Seraphic Fire \nSeraphic Fire brings together professional vocal and instrumental artists from around the US and internationally to perform and record repertoire ranging from medieval chant and Baroque masterpieces to commissions by leading living composers. \nSeraphic Fire’s artistic accomplishments also have translated to partnerships with The Cleveland Orchestra and New World Symphony\, among others.
