The Jubilee Center

The Jubilee Center was started in 1984 by St. John’s Episcopal Church in Hollywood, FL and was soon joined by other area Episcopal churches. Jubilee is a Matthew 25 organization and exists to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ, carrying out the Great Commandment of loving our neighbor.  By extension, all of us here at All Saints bring our hands and feet to this ministry, along with other local churches, synagogues, mosques and schools, providing food to those most in need. Thanks to so many of you, All Saints has been able to support the Jubilee Center for many years.

Jubilee immediately began to attract the food insecure and homeless population, operating as a soup kitchen in Hollywood.  In 2023, James Sullivan, M. Div., helped to refocus Jubilee in rented space at St. Ambrose Episcopal Church in Fort Lauderdale. Demand continues to grow and now provides needed food weekly to approximately 50 households, feeding an average of 134 adults and 87 children who are hungry.

There are many wonderful stories about Jubilee, but one recent incident stands out. Two elderly women came to Jubilee for assistance. They showed up crying as they thought they had missed the distribution time, but their tears turned joyful when they saw the food offered them. One said to the other, “Sister, this week we eat.”

Sunday, March 23, is Jubilee Day at All Saints, and here’s how you can help:

Bring a bag of food with you to church of most needed items:

  • Canned vegetables
  • Creamy peanut butter and jelly
  • Boxes of pasta or jars of pasta sauce
  • Boxes of cereal
  • Canned ravioli, tuna fish or chicken

Please leave your bag in the Narthex, and along with the gifts of bread and wine, ushers will bring food collected up to the altar as a reminder of your gifts given.  Please remember Jubilee going forward by bringing another bag of food to church.
