Outreach Opportunities

Have items you wish to donate? Now you can bring outreach items anytime and put them in the box located in the Narthex with a note indicating your desired recipient organization.  Currently, the Jubilee Center has an urgent need for new and gently used men’s shoes, especially athletic shoes. White men’s socks are also appreciated.

See a detailed list of other items needed under the Outreach Programs tab below.

All Saints supports several outreach programs in the Fort Lauderdale area:

T.R.U.E. (Towards Relief of Urgent Emergencies) FUND The TRUE Fund (Towards the Relief of Urgent Emergencies), provides emergency grants of up to $100 for utility bills, emergency housing, children’s clothing, medicine, medical and dental bills, etc. Recipients are screened by various local charitable agencies. Financial donations may be made by using the Special Offering envelopes in the pew racks and marking the envelope for the TRUE Fund. If you would like to donate by credit card, please call our Financial Administrator, Michael Lee, at 954-467-6496, ext. 1102 or simply use the Giving Online link on the home page of this website. For more information about the TRUE fund, contact Phyllis Barnes.

HOSPITALITY WEEK (BEDS AROUND THE ALTAR) Approximately four times a year, working with Hope South Florida, All Saints functions as an overflow emergency shelter for homeless families during a one week period. Typically, two mothers and their children are our guests during the week. They sleep in our facilities and join our parish in fellowship, meals and recreation. Volunteers from the parish provide dinners, play with the children or help with homework, and serve as overnight hosts, providing a safe and welcoming environment for these fragile families. For more information, contact Gregg Geenty-Prudhomme.

JUBILEE CENTER OF SOUTH BROWARD The Jubilee Center provides emergency resources and relief from hunger and despair. All Saints collects supplies for their feeding programs: canned items (pop top cans of beans and wieners, sausages, fruit, macaroni, tuna, chicken); dry goods (rice, beans, cereal, etc); dehydrated onion soup mix, big cans of vegetables, macaroni and cheese, tuna, tomato soup, pastas, chicken noodle soup, ramen soup noodles, saltines (2 pkg. style). We also collect general purpose tools (hammers, screw drivers, etc.).  For more information, contact Frank Asterita.

LAUNDRY LOVE OF SOUTH FLORIDA is a new ministry sponsored by All Saints Episcopal Church. On the Second Tuesday of each month from 4 to 7 p.m., Laundry Love will assist homeless and low-income individuals with washing their clothing and bedding for free at a local laundromat. As Christians we are called on many times to help and support those who are less fortunate.  For more information, contact Rich Markiewicz. Click here for more information on Laundry Love.

About UTO

Ever wondered where the United Thank Offering came from?  Or who the people are that are involved?  Want to know who your All Saints representative is?  All kinds of information about the organization can be found on their website by clicking one of the links below.

This year we distributed the “little blue boxes” to everyone attending services on Feb 3rd.  These boxes are taken home and filled with your change (or bills) during Lent and then returned on for our In-Gathering on Sunday March 3rd.  It is amazing how everyone’s change adds up.  Last year we collected over $5,000!!!

Look for more information in the bulletin each week and check out the UTO website.

HURRICANE RELIEF FUND
In a period when we have been advised of heightened hurricane activity in the Atlantic and Caribbean, All Saints has established a relief funding process to provide direct assistance to those most devastated by the impact of these tropical storms.

JUBILEE FUND
The Outreach ministry team receives requests for disbursement of funds from one of the Endowment funds earmarked specifically for outreach. Requests are reviewed quarterly and forwarded to the Finance Committee then to the Vestry for final approval.

For more information about our outreach programs, contact either Deacon Jon Owens or Lou Strennen.

In the fall of 2019 Deacon Jon Owens led a group of All Saints’ members on somewhat of a pilgrimage to a little town outside of Antigua, Guatemala.  The “Ninos Creadores de Historia – Children Create History” school is run by Deacon Phyllis Manoogian, a former classmate of Deacon Jon.  The group, including Bob Carpenter, Conrad Akers, Crellin Byrd, April LeClair, Scott Helsel, Kim Byham, Zule Mesa-=Zevallos, David Pearce and Rose Powers, helped with carpentry, painting, electrical, teaching, cooking and much more during their five day visit.  During this time the group formed a strong bond with the children and the staff of the school.

Niños Creadores de Historia School provides supplemental instruction to struggling first and second graders in the small rural community of San Andrés Itzapa, Guatemala. Without this support, most of these children will not make it to the sixth grade. Guatemalan children that struggle in their beginning years of school usually don’t finish primary school.

The school works closely with the neighborhood public schools to identify at-risk students. Despite operating on a shoestring budget, Niños Creadores de Historia provides these young students with small group instruction with plenty of individual attention.

Living in one of the most disadvantaged neighborhoods in San Andrés Itzapa, these children confront daily challenges common in a developing country. The school provides these children with a safe haven, a respite from their daily struggles. In addition to educational support, the school helps these children develop stronger self-confidence and higher self-esteem.

Please visit the school’s website for more information (http://childrencreatehistory.org/).

If you would like to make a financial contribution to the school, click on the red Donate button above and choose “Ninos Creadores de Historia” from the dropdown menu.
